Democratic Party’s Presidential Candidates For 2024: As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the Democratic Party finds itself in a competitive race to determine who will carry the party’s banner into the election. This year’s slate of candidates showcases, a mix of skilled politicians and fresh faces, each bringing a unique perspective and policy priorities.

President Biden and former President Donald J. Trump won their respective parties primary. However, after finishing the campaign, on 21st July 2024, President Biden announced that he would end his re-election bid. He uphold Kamala Harris to replace him upon the Democratic ticket. Now the presidential nominee is expected to be announced in August 2024.

The following is a list of candidates associated with the 2024 Democratic Party Presidential Primaries for the 2024 presidential election in the United States. As of March 2024, more than 190 candidates have filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to run for the 2024 Democratic nomination. On July 21, 2024. Joe Biden withdrew his nomination as a candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris announced her candidacy for the Democratic party.

After withdrawing Joe Biden’s nomination, Vice President Kamala Harris was elected as a nominee on 21st July 2024 for the Democratic party by the  Democratic National Convention. Kamala Harris, the first black woman and the first person of South Asian who hold the Vice President’s office. Harris got a Law degree from the University of California Hastings College of Law and worked as a U.S. Senator in a district attorney’s office in Alameda.

The following candidates have received strong media coverage or have been elected to major public offices including President, Vice President, Governor, US Senator, etc. 

  1. Marianne Williamson: She is an author, was born on 20th October 1964 in Houston, TX. She gained publicity for appearing on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” as Oprah’s spiritual adviser. Williamson ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination and dropped out in January 2020. Her 2024 campaign was briefly suspended on 7th February 2024, but on 2nd July 2024, she again announced her decision to resume her campaign after Joe Biden’s dropout performance at the June 27 presidential debate.
  2. Bernie Sanders: He was born on 8th September 1941 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, is an American politician and activist who is the senior United States senator from Vermont. Sanders was a major candidate for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020, finishing second to Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, respectively.
  3. Cenk Uygur: He is a Turkish-American political commentator, journalist, and activist. He is the co-founder and main host of The Young Turks (TYT), a progressive news and commentary program on YouTube. He is best known for progressive politics, advocating for issues like universal healthcare, social justice, etc. In October 2023, Uygur announced his candidacy in the 2024 Democratic Presidential primaries. However, he withdrew his candidacy on 6th March, 24.

Democratic Party Withdrew Presidential Candidate: Joe Biden

Joe Biden was born on 20th November 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He is th 46th President of the United State of America (2021-present). He started his career as a young Senator from Delaware and eventually served as Vice President under Barack Obama for eight years. In 2020, he successfully won the presidency by defeating Donald Trump. In the 2024 presidential election he withdrew his nomination on 21st July 2024 and announced that he would end hi re-election bid. He endorsed Kamala Harris to replace him on the Democratic ticket.
